Top Five Travel Apps for Families
When planning a vacation with your family, especially if you have a big family, there are a million little things to coordinate and plan. Travel apps on your iPhone can help you plan so you can spend more time enjoying your vacation. Here are a few helpful (and free!) apps to get you started:
When you’re home and packing for your trip, trying to remember which items are allowed (Contact solution? Baby formula? Portable DVD players?) this app will remind you of what is and is not allowed through airport security. It also provides information for users who are eligible for the TSA precheck program, updates on which airports are experiencing significant delays, and approximate length of the check-in lines.
In case of annoying delays, or if you’re just a good planner and get through security early, this app shows flight information, as well as information about amenities in the airport, such as ATMs, coffee shops, restaurants, and bookstores. It also includes user reviews, so you and your children aren’t flying blind when choosing a place to eat or shop.
Want something fun to do on the road? This app conveniently locates family-friendly places near you, such as parks, playgrounds, and kids’ museums, as well as contact information and reviews from other parents.
And then, when the family gets hungry…
You can use this app to find any kid-friendly chain restaurant that your child already loves. The app includes everyday favorites like Subway, Outback, California Pizza Kitchen, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Moe’s, Baja Fresh, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Fatburger and more.
Rest Area Finder (not available for android)
When your children inevitably have to go to the bathroom ten minutes after you leave the restaurant, you can easily find the nearest rest area with this easy-to-use app. Rest Area Finder uses your current location in order to display all nearby rest areas and welcome centers.

Hello Real Family Trips – what a fantastic website! Traveling is stressful enough without adding children to the mix and you’ve got some great advice here. I’ve just set up an equipment rental shop at Dublin Airport and am busy trying to bully the Dublin Airport Authorities into providing better services for parents travelling with children; like providing strollers with the concierge service, having play towers / areas throughout the airport. I’ll be very happy to promote your website and blogs – good job!
Thanks, Olivia. We appreciate your interest and love to see new businesses that strive to provide great family oriented services. We wish you the best in your work at the airport.
