Spotlight On: “Finding Neverland” and Family Fun on Broadway in NYC
A great Broadway experience is the kind of memory that can last a lifetime for a family. You can create a great bonding moment as you share in the splendor and tradition of the stage, while enjoying the heart of New York City. Whether you live in the area, or are looking to make a trip to fabulous New York – with all it has to offer children, teens and parents – we highly recommend a stop on the “Great White Way” to experience the unique segment of culture and excitement that collide when the lights go down in a Broadway Theater.
A new show, just opening, entitled “Finding Neverland” offers an amazing performance, perfect for families. Over the years many great shows come and go. One real family had a chance to attend the show in previews, and share their review of the experience with us. A new classic may just have been born, and we highly recommend the show for all to see.
Billed as “The Story of How Peter Became Pan”, Finding Neverland: The Musical brings a childhood classic to the stage in an exciting and vibrant new performance.

A Little About Our Reviewing Family:
The type of vacation we typically choose is luxury. For our activities, we like luxury and often stay at the finest hotels, but we are also adventurous and love off the beaten path types of experiences and always seek them out. We aren’t bothered by very “local” experiences anywhere and think these are very important to our vacation. We love adventure. We also like a mixture of regular, touristic and organized places. We enjoy hiking and outdoorsy activities. We enjoy museums, markets and other activities geared towards children. We like to maximize each day by seeing as much as possible.
Our children at the time of this trip: 6 children- Boy age 16, Girl age 16, Girl age 16, Girl age 12, and Boy age 8.
And Now, Our Real Family Review of “Finding Neverland, The Musical”:
We love the performance, and found the show to be powerful. The music was fantastic, the scenery brought the stage to life, and the entire performance delighted both kids and parents alike.
We feel the show is ideal for preteens, in both its tone and subject matter. In the end however, our children from as young as 8 up through 16 years old all enjoyed it thoroughly. There is a scene that is quite sad, so very young or sensitive children may have trouble with this, but we have to say that our 8 year old loved the show, and was able to cope with this section of it. You know your own children and can decide if it is inappropriate for them or not.
Unlike some recent shows we have seen, which have featured smaller and less spectacular casts, this show did not disappoint in the acting department one bit. It was a good sized cast. Everyone had a wonderful voice, and delivered a fantastic performance. Matthew Morrison (who plays Mr. Schuester on Glee) leads the show and delivers an outstanding performance. He really does a fantastic job and we were all impressed. Laura Michelle Kelly was amazing as the mother of the four boys, and Kelsey Grammer shone as Charles Frohman. The four young boys were all terrific, especially the one playing Peter. Our kids especially appreciated getting to see such talent in their contemporaries. In the end, all the actors were terrific. these were just the standouts. The outstanding cast really set everything up for an amazing evening.
The reactions from our family ranged from finding the show to be “magical” and “powerful,” to being a great opportunity to get in touch with your childhood again. Children will be amazed and parents delighted at a fun show that allows the world to melt away as you simply enjoy a mystical and whimsical couple of hours together. At our performance, the audience gave a standing ovation, as adults and young seemed to simply love it.
