Visitors of all ages will enjoy exploring this historic site. Pigeon Island National Landmark is considered one of the most important monuments of St. Lucia’s history. The French owned Pigeon Island in 1778 and declared war on the British, who defeated the French and captured the island. Pigeon Island was then used by the British to spy on the French fleet in Martinique, resulting in the defeat of the French in the Battle of the Saints in 1782. Today, the landmark is a living museum with a number of heritage attractions including ruins of military buildings, an Interpretation Center displaying the history of the island, two beautiful beaches, two restaurants serving delicious local cuisine, a gift shop and a lookout point at the top of the fort with breathtaking views of the coast. Make sure to bring your camera to this spectacular spot.
