Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! The San Diego Zoo located in Balboa Park houses over 3,700 animals of more than 650 species. This zoo pioneered the concept of open-air, cageless exhibits that recreate natural animal habitats. The San Diego Zoo is one of the few zoos in the world that houses giant pandas. Exhibits range from an African rainforest to the Arctic taiga and tundra. The zoo offers guided tour buses and an overhead gondola lift called the Skyfari, which provides an aerial view of the zoo. The zoo has themed sleepovers for families each May through October. These include animal presentations, a private tour bus, a moonlight stroll, a tent and meals. This is a San Diego favorite that you don’t want to miss.

Experience life at sea without leaving port. The USS Midway Museum houses an extensive collection of military craft, including the USS Midway. Visitors enter a floating city at sea and walk in the footsteps of 225,000 Midway sailors who served our country. The 60 exhibits range from the crew’s sleeping quarters to the engine room, the ship’s jail and primary flight control. The realistic flight simulators put visitors right in the shoes of an aviator launching off the flight deck, engaging the enemy, and returning safely (for an extra fee). Admission includes a self-guided audio tour which is narrated by Midway sailors who lived or worked on Midway, bringing the carrier back to life. This remarkable museum will be a fun experience for the whole family.
