Opening in 1874, The Philadelphia Zoo was the first zoo in the United States. The 42-acre campus is filled with a variety of animal exhibits. Step into Africa at the African Plains exhibit, which includes rhinos, zebras, giraffes and other amazing African animals. Bear Country features a variety of bear species in a land of flowing waterfalls, babbling brooks and deep pools. Come face to face with big cats from around the world including snow leopards, lions, jaguars and tigers at the First Niagara Big Cat Falls exhibit. Children will have a wild time at KidZoo, where children can pet and feed a variety of animals. Zoo360 is a campus-wide network of see-through mesh trails where animals roam around above zoo grounds. In addition to the amazing animal exhibits, the zoo offers a variety of attractions to make your visit even more memorable. Take a ride on the Amazon Rainforest Carousel, soar high above the animals in the Zooballoon, explore the African Plains on camelback at Camel Safari and paddle around Bird Valley on Swan Boats. There is plenty to see and do at America’s first zoo.

Franklin Square is one of the five original open-spaces in Philadelphia. Ranked as one of the top five playgrounds in the United States, Franklin Square is a great spot for the whole family. The All-American style Parx Liberty Carousel features a zebra, a lion, an eagle and other animals that recall the city’s historical heritage. Philly Mini Golf is the only miniature golf course in Center City and highlights some of Philadelphia’s best-known tourist spots, such as the Liberty Bell. The Franklin Square Fountain was built in 1838 and has served as the centerpiece of the square. Enjoy tasty burgers, hot dogs, french fries and milkshakes at Square Burger. There are two playgrounds where children can climb, swing, twirl and explore. Visitors of all ages will enjoy relaxing and playing at Franklin Square.

Young visitors will enjoy playing and learning at the Please Touch Museum, a children’s museum geared towards children 7 years and younger. The two floors of interactive exhibits are designed to encourage learning through play. City Capers offers a realistic urban environment where children can be architects, doctors, shopkeepers and city planners in a neighborhood setting. Flight Fantasy is where children can row a flying machine, play hopscotch in the clouds and create their own rocketship. Children will love Roadside Attractions, where they can set up road signs, collect tolls, repair cars and fill tanks in the Please Touch Garage. Race sailboats, play with bubbles and take a journey down a river in River Adventures. The Please Taste Cafe features a variety of delicious healthy selections for the whole family.
