Our family likes a mix of activities and stops. Educational spots and historic locations are important, but sometimes we just want to have fun or enjoy the ultimate in luxury as well. We are an active family who enjoys hiking and seeing the best of nature, and we enjoy adventure and excitement much of the time. We also like to enjoy more relaxed stops, like beaches, in order to rest and recharge. Some days we are on the move from sun up until after sundown, but there are other days when we schedule fewer stops and take time to really experience the local culture and residents. Our children at the time of this itinerary: 3 children-Boy age 21 years, Boy age 16 years, Boy age 14 years.
Description: Honolulu is the capital city of Hawaii, and it is the city with the largest population in the state as well. This is the city where most tourists to the Hawaiian islands arrive and depart, and it is a bustling place full of life and culture. Pearl Harbor is located not far from Honolulu, and there are many cultural attractions and shopping destinations in the city. Tourists usually enjoy spending some time in Honolulu, exploring everything that this city offers.
Our Experiences: Our time in Honolulu was interesting, but the city is large and crowded. We found a wide variety of stores, numerous restaurants, many hotels, and other tourist amenities. There were also many cultural places and historical spots to visit here. We just wandered around for a little while and enjoyed seeing the city and the crowds.
Description: Waikiki Beach is the most famous beach on the Hawaiian islands, and it has been used in many movies and commercials over the year. This beach was once a playground for the royalty in Hawaii, and it is still a top beach for tourists and residents today. Waikiki Beach is usually crowded but most people manage to find some space here. The sandy beach stretches for about one and a half miles and it has some incredible ocean views.
Our Experiences: After we left Honolulu we decided to head to Waikiki Beach. There was a crowd on the beach and it was not as remote or secluded as we were hoping for. The area does look like it is portrayed in movies, and the ocean water is warm and clear. We did not stay here for too long because of the crowds but it was a nice place to see and we enjoyed the experience even if it was not one of our favorite stops in Hawaii.
Description: A whale watching cruise can either be a fantastic experience or a disappointing venture, depending on a number of factors. It is not possible to guarantee whale sightings, even during the ideal winter months when these marine animals tend to appear off the shores of Hawaii. An experienced captain will be more knowledgeable about where the whales are most likely to be though, and this can improve the odds of seeing whales while cruising in the ocean.
Our Experiences: We went on a whale watching cruise, and we were successful even though we were warned that the captain could not guarantee any sightings. We saw a number of whales, some from far away and some that were closer to us. Seeing these large creatures in their natural habitat was a wonderful experience for everyone. We give this stop a high rating, it was worth the cost of the cruise.
Description: If unusual shows are your thing then a Magic Polynesian Show can be a great idea. Magic is combined with traditional Polynesian entertainment, for a show that is hard to forget. Guests will get to see levitation, pyrotechnics, a variety of other magic tricks, and even traditional hula dancing. The show is available alone, with a standard dinner, or with a deluxe dinner.
Our Experiences: In the evening we wanted to experience some of the local culture and entertainment so we decided to go to a Magic Polynesian show. The show included a variety of entertaining performances, and the kids were just as thrilled as the adults with this stop. We chose the show without the dinner option. There were different show times that we could choose from, and the cost was very reasonable. This was a nice end to a great day.
