Months Visited: January
Our family likes a mix of activities and stops. Educational spots and historic locations are important, but sometimes we just want to have fun or enjoy the ultimate in luxury as well. We are an active family who enjoys hiking and seeing the best of nature, and we enjoy adventure and excitement much of the time. We also like to enjoy more relaxed stops, like beaches, in order to rest and recharge. Some days we are on the move from sun up until after sundown, but there are other days when we schedule fewer stops and take time to really experience the local culture and residents. Our children at the time of this itinerary: 3 children-Boy age 21 years, Boy age 16 years, Boy age 14 years
Description: A snorkel cruise can include some of the best snorkeling spots and the waters off some of the most popular beaches in Hawaii. A cruise allows visitors to take a boat and stop in a number of different spots, and this optimizes the experience and improves the odds of seeing a wide range of marine life and tropical fish. Several companies offer this type of cruise and you can arrange to spend a few hours or an entire day, depending on your family budget and preferences.
Our Experiences: Our snorkel cruise went very well, and everyone had a lot of fun during the trip. We spent several hours visiting the best snorkeling spots in the area and our captain knew where the marine life could be found most of the time. Most of the spots that we tried offer some great underwater views, but there were a few that were disappointing in terms of the number and variety of the fish. This was a great experience that we all rated quite highly, and we recommend it to other adventurous families who enjoy the water and marine life.
Description: Ulua Beach is one of the more popular beaches in Hawaii, with a sandy beach and waves that are the focus of many surfers and body boarders in the area at times. The sandy expanse is situated between two points which are very rocky, and on most days this is an excellent place to swim and ride the waves. During times of high surf the water here can be higher than what it is on other beaches in the local area though, and swimming during these conditions is not recommended.
Our Experiences: Ulua Beach was a good beach, with nice ocean views and plenty of sand for the kids to play and build in, but it did get a little crowded before we left. When we were here the ocean was calmer and our family went swimming. After spending the earlier part of the day cruising around and snorkeling it felt good to just lay back and relax in the sun for the adults, and the kids were more than happy to run around and comb the beach while we lounged after our swim.
