Months Visited: August
We try to spend time with a variety of activities and stops when we travel. Fun is important, but we also include educational and historic spots whenever p[possible as well. We like to have adventures full of excitement and we are willing to get off the beaten path to do this. We also like to include days at the beach and other relaxing activities on each trip. We are an active family who enjoys being outdoors, and we want each day to be packed full of new sights and experiences. Our children at the time of this itinerary: 3 children-Boy age 17 years, Boy age 12 years, Boy age 10 years.
Description: An automotive museum may not rival one of the most popular California beaches for fun and excitement but it can be a great stop for anyone who enjoys classic cars and the history of the automobile. A variety of cars and motorcycles can be found, some that are antiques, some with a fascinating history, and some that are unique in some way. There are various shows held during the year, such as the corvette show, when many of the vehicles on display belong to a certain make, model, or class of car.
Our Experiences: We spent about half an hour exploring the museum. The cars and motorcycles on display were interesting to look at and learn about but the museum space is smaller than we expected. Navigating the museum was easy to do. The kids liked seeing some of the older cars, and for adults this stop can bring a sense of nostalgia for the days gone by. All in all this was a nice stop. Small children and those who do not enjoy vintage automobiles may not enjoy this stop as much though.
Description: Venice Beach is one of the most popular California beaches, and there is a lot to see and do here. Three miles of soft sand and water activities are just the beginning. The promenade that is located alongside the beach is usually crowded with street performers, tourists, and residents who are out in full force. The promenade includes many shops, restaurants, and other establishments, but the unusual mix of individuals and the unique sights are what draws people to the area. There are mimes, fortune tellers, street musicians, people with large snakes and other exotic animals on display, jugglers, and much more. Piercings, tattoos, and a lack of clothing sets some of the visitors to the area apart, and they can be seen next to those who are fully clothed and look clean cut. Muscle beach is an area of the beach that is used by serious bodybuilders who work out daily. Venice Beach is a fascinating place to visit whether you are looking for some time in the sand and enjoy the water or you just want to people watch.
Our Experiences: This stop was really unusual, and everyone loved it. The people along the boardwalk range from what we expected to the very unusual and unique. The beach area is quite nice but somewhat crowded. The kids were excited to see all of the people performing, lifting weights, and using roller blades to get around. We saw people in swimsuits as well as those who were fully dressed, and there were many musicians, portrait artists, and other street performers. We did browse through some of the stores, and the items for sale ranged from cheesy souvenirs to incredible works of art. This was an interesting stop that was a highlight of our trip.
