We frequently choose luxury vacations. We enjoy luxury activities and utilize the best hotels possible most of the time, but we also have a sense of adventure and are willing to sacrifice some luxury in order to experience more remote locations and places less often visited by tourists. We seek out opportunities to get off the beaten path and see the real people and culture of an area, not just the tourist hotspots. We enjoy mixing it up, combining regular touristic stops with outside activities like hiking. Markets are a favorite with our family and we also enjoy museums and other stops that are geared towards kids and families. We try to cram in as much as possible every single day of our vacation. Our children at the time of this itinerary: 5 children- Boy age 7, Girl age 7, Girl age 7, Girl age 3, and Boy age 1.
Address: Lake George, New York
Admission: Price Varies
Description: Lake George offers numerous opportunities for fishing, both from the shore and from a boat out on the lake. There is a unique mix of both warm water and cold water fish in this body of water, and there are many boats for hire that will take you out onto the lake so that you can fish.
Our Experience: We rented a fishing boat with a captain for a fishing tour around Lake George. This was a great experience for all ages and everyone had a fun time. The kids learned to fish and loved it.
Address: Route 9, Lake George, New York
Description: Route 9 is the main road through Lake George, and there are a number of arcades situated along this street. There are many different games and arcade activities for the entire family to enjoy. Many visitors and locals alike enjoy spending time in these places.
Our Experience: The area may be a little kitsch but the kids really loved the main drag with all the arcades. This is worth a stop for an hour or so. Go if you have time; the kids will have a blast and parents will get a chance to relax and take a break, or even play a few favorite games themselves.

Hours: Varies depending on the performance schedule
Admission: Adults starting at $14; Kids starting at $8. Kids 3 and under are free.
Description: The Painted Pony Championship Rodeo offers a real live rodeo experience for those who attend. Located approximately 30 minutes from Lake George in Lake Luzerne, New York this is the oldest weekly rodeo in the United States today. In addition to a full rodeo schedule and numerous rodeo activities, visitors will also find authentic Texas BBQ.
Our Experience: We decided to spend the evening at a rodeo. This was a real authentic rodeo about 30-40 minutes from the Lake George area. All loved the experience and the entire family thought it was very cool. It was really local. One weird thing though, at “half time” they let kids run around the ring where the rodeo takes place. Parents should note that the animal waste is all over and the kids were asked to run in socks. Even if they were allowed to run in shoes this is still gross and very unsanitary.
