Description: Renting a small mini yacht can be a great way to explore the water surrounding the Hawaiian islands and find some of the remote beaches of Hawaii. There are a number of companies which rent these vessels, and there may be a range of sizes and amenities to choose from. Because they are small these boats do not require a large crew or considerable boating experience, and they can be easily handled with some simple instructions. Renting a mini yacht can be an exciting way to go off the usual path and find new places to explore that are not crowded. Cruise along the water and see why Hawaii is a top destination for visitors.
Our Experiences: We had a lot of fun renting a mini yacht, and the boat that we rented was very impressive. It was easy to operate and it allowed us to see things that we would have missed by staying on the island. The stunning landscapes seen from the water were a highlight of the trip, and the small yacht was easy to land so we could get off the boat and explore. This was a favorite stop for the kids and adults both, and the experience was worth the cost of renting the mini yacht.

Description: Hookena Park is not one of the beaches of Hawaii that offers pure white sand but this is a place where many families go and it is a popular spot. The beach is very kid friendly, with small tide pools that children love to discover, and the surf is small and fairly calm when compared to some of the other beaches of Hawaii. The sand here is dark colored, and it is made up of volcanic rock that has been ground down mixed with small grains of gray coral. Hookena Park offers plenty of shade to get away from the sun, and there are trails which lead to tree groves and fascinating rock formations.
Our Experiences: We enjoyed the time that we spent at Hookena Park. There are no lifeguards on duty here so make sure to follow all of the safety recommendations for the beaches of Hawaii. The sand was darker than many of the other beaches but the beach was fun to explore and play on. The water gets deep fairly quickly so be careful and keep a close eye on kids so they do not get in over their head unexpectedly. The floor of the ocean is somewhat rough so wearing footwear in the ocean is a good idea here. This was a good place for us to relax and spend time together having fun, and our family gives this beach a high rating.
