Our family consists of both parents and three children who are ages 19 (boy), 17 (boy) and 14 (girl). We enjoy luxury but we are willing to sacrifice some comfort and luxury in order to get off of the tourist track. The hotels that we choose are often the finest available in an area, and while we usually plan our experiences we are also up for adventure and spontaneous experiences as well. We try to avoid areas that have many tourists and destinations that are tourist traps, but we enjoy markets and theme parks. We are always looking for attractions that are geared toward children when we take family trips.

Overall Rating:
Description: Pearl Harbor is a location that most people around the world are aware of. This is the Hawaiian harbor that was attacked by the Japanese during World War II, bringing the USA into the war. The area includes the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center as well as museums and other sights of interest, including the USS Arizona, the USS Missouri, and the USS Bowfin which is a submarine. A number of tours also include the Punchbowl National Cemetery.
Our Experience: The Pearl Harbor tour was one of the highlights of the trip, even though some of our kids were younger. This is a very educational stop that everyone in the family will find interesting. Older kids will understand the history behind the location, and younger kids will be thrilled to visit the ships and other attractions. We did not have any hitches for our tour but when the national security level is high additional security precautions and restrictions may be placed into effect. We all got a lot out of the experience, and all except the youngest realized the important part that this location plays in our history.

Description: Honolulu is the state capital of Hawaii, and it is a vibrant city full of life and excitement. There are many historic landmarks to see and a variety of activities to take part in. World class shopping, fine dining, a fascinating culture and friendly people, and much more can be found in this city. Visit the Lolani Palace, explore Pearl Harbor, and take time to go to the Bishop Museum. There is so much to see and do here that you may need a week or more to fully experience all of the aspects of Honolulu.
Our Experiences: This city is one of the largest in Hawaii, and we found an abundance of things to see and do. This was a big city that was quite crowded but was a good way to conclude our vacation. We found things that everyone was interested in, and the children enjoyed exploring Honolulu just as much as the adults did. You will find things to fit any tastes and preferences, and the natural beauty and tropical environment of the area is another positive.
