Month Visited: December
We are a family who enjoys seeing new things and trying new experiences, with an adventurous spirit and an active lifestyle. We enjoy getting off the beaten path and discovering places that are not large tourist attractions, but we also value the time we spend together and enjoy some relaxation time as well. Every day that we travel is packed full, and we try not to waste any time so we can do and see as much as possible. Our children at the time of this itinerary: 4 children-Boy age 27 years, Boy age 25 years, Girl age 21 years, Boy age 17 years.
Special tips and warnings about this trip: There are some recommended vaccinations that you may need to receive before you travel to Peru, and you should check with your family physician to determine what shots each family member needs. Potable water can be a problem, especially in more remote areas, so you should pack extra water for drinking and cooking to avoid any problems. Do not drink the local water or eat anything that is made with this liquid because you could become very sick as a result of microorganisms or contamination in the water supply. Take care to avoid insect bites, and discuss whether anti malaria medications should be taken while you are here with yoru doctor. Pack plenty of insect repellant and some mosquito netting to prevent being bitten by insects during yoru travels through Peru.

Description: Cusco offers some incredible whitewater rafting to locals and visitors, with sections of the nearby Urubamba river being rated from a II to a IV, depending on the section and the season of the year when the rafting takes place. Beginning in early December and going through the month of March the river becomes faster and the rapids are more intense, with a rating of III and IV. Whitewater rafting can be a great way to see the natural beauty of the area while also getting an exciting and thrilling experience at the same time. Many companies offer rafting trips and tours, and all safety precautions are followed to ensure a safe and fun trip down the river.
Our Experiences: We greatly enjoyed our whitewater rafting trip, and the kids were really excited and could not stop talking about this activity. The rapids that we went through ranged from moderate to extreme, and we took this trip in December which is one of the months when the rapids rating is highest. There was plenty of excitement, and even a little apprehension on some of the worst rapids. This may not be the best activity if you have younger children but our kids has a lot of fun, and this was an adventure that we all enjoyed. We all recommend the whitewater rafting for anyone who likes excitement and heart pounding adventure. This was a great activity that we will remember fondly, and one we will repeat if we are in the area in the future.
Admission: Usually free, although some venues may charge for entry
Description: The folk music in Peru dates back through history, and it is still very popular today. Unique instruments and sounds mesmerize and enchant, and the musical arts that are practiced come from the ancestors of the local populations and the skills and knowledge have been passed down from one generation to the next. The live folk music in and around Cusco is renown for haunting melodies and unusual instruments and sounds, and it is something that everyone should experience when they come to this region.
Our Experiences: After spending the day whitewater rafting we were more than ready to spend some time relaxing, and the live folk music was the perfect chance for us to sit down and enjoy time as a family. The music is full of eclectic sounds and it may involve a number of primitive instruments, and there are many places where you can stop to enjoy the sounds. Some musicians play right on the street, and there are venues that offer folk music concerts along with food and drink. The adults really enjoyed the chance to just sit and listen to the music, although this was not a top favorite stop for some of our children who preferred more energetic and active stops more.
